Finding the right tattooist for you

With so many artists and studios out there, it can be daunting trying to find the right tattooist for you. Here are some pointers to set you on the right track:

  1. Make sure that the artist you choose is capable of doing what you want, I’m sure that you already have an image of what you would like. Does the tattooists portfolio of work reflect the style you are looking for? If not, then move on. If you’re after hyper-realism then you need to find someone who is competent in that field, otherwise the results may not be what you expected.

  2. Do you match energetically with the artist? Do you feel comfortable around them? You’ll be spending a fair amount of time in close proximity with them, good vibes are essential for both of you.

  3. How do you feel about the studio? There are so many different studios, offering varied and different experiences now, there’s something for everyone. However, if you would feel more comfortable in a space where it’s one on one and private, a bustling studio full of scene kids hanging around is probably not going to be your bag, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s worth being aware of, you need to feel comfortable and at ease.

  4. Attitude is everything! Does the artist seem excited and enthusiastic about your tattoo? You need to find that connection, it’s something that’s going to be on you for the rest of your life, do a little searching and get the right fit.

  5. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, a good tattooist will be happy to answer them and work with you to give you the best tattoo and the best experience.

Happy hunting!
